You'll catch more flies with soap

I have an interesting discovery that I'd just like to share. The past day or two, we've had an outbreak of fruit flies which we can't seem to get rid of. Yesterday morning before work we put the rice cooker's bowl in the sink to clean later. Realizing, as I was getting ready for work, that I didn't have time to clean it, I filled it with nice hot soapy water to make sure our uninvited guests didn't get a free meal. The foam head on it was about 4-6 inches high. When I got home from work I found over 20 little fruit flies stuck in the soap bubbles. I guess it's true. Nobody can resist a warm bubble bath.

Free Time

As most people reading this likely know my life has been changing a lot these last few months. I got married, bought a house, well I guess that's all, but it's enough for now. Aside from the expected things to get used to, like having a mortgage to pay, and getting used to living with another person, I'm amazed by how little spare time I have these days. I guess I expected a certain amount of time spent on home maintenance, but I didn't realize just how time consuming owning a house can be. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret it one bit, but it seems as though it takes practically all of my free time. Not only that, I have to say that we're doing a pretty poor job of keeping up with the yard work. If I was my neighbor I'd be pretty ticked off, as our neighbors have pretty nicely kept yards. In our defense, when we moved in, the yard had been basically free to grow all it wanted for the previous 8 months or so. Still, even when we think we'll get a break, and a little time to catch up, something always seems to interrupt. This weekend, for example, it was a washing machine drive belt that melted on Friday night. In a house this old there's always something to throw you for a loop. We don't even have kids either. If this is what "growing up" is like, I'm not so sure I want to do it.

Coming soon in another installment: learning to ride a unicycle.

Welcome

Welcome to my 'blog. This is my first try at creating a 'blog. Really, the site was created for me by the folks at "blogger" for the most part, but the content will be all from my head. You may know me, or maybe not, but come back to see what's going on in my head and in my life.
